Parents of baby Gloria ignored doctor’s advice to see specialist (used homeopathy instead, baby died)
A DOCTOR who examined Gloria Thomas three months before she died from infections arising from eczema admitted in the Supreme Court yesterday he did not warn her parents the condition might be fatal because it “never crossed my mind”.
But Dr Brian Symons said if they had allowed him to continue to monitor the baby, then he would have noticed that her skin problems were causing her to lose a serious amount of weight and realised the gravity of her condition.
Homeopath Thomas Sam, 42, and Manju Sam, 36, have been charged with the manslaughter of Gloria, who died aged nine months after they allegedly disregarded medical advice for the treatment of her eczema in favour of homeopathic remedies.
Dr Symons said he told the parents to stop using homeopathy and to use sorbolene and a bath additive, and to cut Gloria’s fingernails to make sure her scratching was not irritating the rash.
